Job Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including nights weekends and holidays
- Ability to perform friendly courteous and tactful relations with customers and coworkers
- Ability to communicate using hearing and speech for customer relations
- Ability to complete written forms accurately
- Ability to visually inspect merchandise and read product information
- Ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to operate check stand equipment including cash registers scanners and scales
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods walk rapidly bend stoop twist and turn frequently
- Manual dexterity and good hand eye coordination
- Ability to learn and memorize extensive information including PLU codes product locations check stand procedures and company policies
- Ability to ensure accuracy scanning verifying sales and handling monetary transactions with mental alertness and basic math skills
- Ability to occasionally use blades for box cutting
- Ability to use household cleaners to maintain work area
- Ability to perform primary duties efficiently and accurately
- Ability to navigate and manage high stress situations with difficult or dissatisfied customers and high transaction volume
- As required by applicable state and local laws food safety/handlers cards tobacco and alcohol sales certification such as TAM card
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous retail or customer service experience is advantageous but not mandatory
- Ability to handle cash and operate point of sale equipment
- Strong communication skills including hearing and speech to assist customers effectively
- Capacity to perform repetitive tasks with accuracy and efficiency
- Basic math skills to process transactions accurately
- Ability to memorize and recall a variety of product codes and location information
- Demonstrated ability to manage high stress levels and customer interactions with composure
Job Duties
- Seek opportunities to welcome engage serve and thank customers
- Maintain an atmosphere of friendly enthusiastic customer service
- Operate check stand equipment such as cash register scanner and scale to process customer orders
- Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- Process monetary transactions including cash checks gift certificates food stamps coupons and refunds adhering to cash handling policies
- Maintain knowledge of current product location monitor UPC codes and ensure proper pricing
- Maintain clean neat and properly stocked check stand and ensure safe and secure work area
- Stock price and rotate merchandise
- Assist customers at multi station self checkout lanes and customer service counters as needed
- Follow state and federal laws concerning sale of restricted items such as tobacco and alcohol
- Adhere to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
- Respond to self checkout alerts and errors and assist customers with transactions
- Monitor multiple transactions and verify payments in a fast paced setting
- Proactively engage customers at self checkout kiosks to ensure transaction accuracy and limit shrinkage
- Prioritize safety of employees and customers by addressing or reporting concerns according to company policy
- Perform other duties as assigned or needed
