Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Certification as California Food Handler within 30 days of hire
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to pass a functional capacity test
  • Experience with cashiering preferred
  • Must join labor union upon hire
  • Ability to operate cash registers and Point of Sale systems
  • Effective communication skills
  • Strong organizational and money handling skills
  • Ability to safely lift and move supplies up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods
  • Willingness to work a flexible and variable schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays
  • Adherence to health, safety, and sanitation guidelines

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent education and training
  • Must obtain California Food Handler Certification within 30 days of hire and recertify every 3 years
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Experience in cashiering, preferably in an academic institution
  • Proficient in operating cash registers and Point of Sale systems
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain courteous, professional demeanor
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and professional software
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays

Job Duties

  • Operate the cash register to receive payments of cash, meal plan cards and tickets, Claremont Cash, and Board Plus according to College procedures
  • Provide correct change and receipts to customers
  • Stay informed of appropriate rates for each meal period
  • Total and summarize funds received after each meal period to ensure correct money handling
  • Sign verification with Dining Room Manager or Dining Lead confirming correct cash drawer count and deposit
  • Record customer counts and monitor sign-in sheets for records
  • Provide excellent customer service and respond promptly to inquiries
  • Prepare and restock coffee, fruits, and desserts as needed
  • Restock and clean condiments, napkin dispensers, salt and pepper shakers
  • Create menu and food allergen signs when needed
  • Follow health and sanitation procedures and safe work practices
  • Participate in training sessions
  • Perform special projects and assignments as directed
