Job Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
- Able to perform friendly, courteous and tactful relations with customers and co-workers
- Ability to communicate effectively including hearing and speech
- Capability to complete written forms
- Ability to visually inspect merchandise and read information
- Lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to operate check stand equipment
- Stand or sit for long periods and frequently bend, stoop, twist and turn
- Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- Ability to learn and memorize PLU codes, product locations and company policies
- Mental alertness and basic math skills for transaction accuracy
- Occasionally use blades for box cutting
- Use household cleaners to maintain work area
- Ability to handle high stress situations including dealing with volatile customers
- Food safety/handlers cards and tobacco and alcohol sales certification as required by law
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous retail or cashier experience advantageous but not required
- Ability to operate cash register, scanner and scale
- Strong customer service skills
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- Ability to memorize price look-up codes and product locations
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of cash handling procedures and lane accountability
- Ability to follow company policies and compliance regulations
Job Duties
- Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- Maintain an atmosphere of friendly and enthusiastic customer service
- Operate check stand equipment such as cash register, scanner and scale to process customer orders
- Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- Process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, coupons, and refunds
- Maintain knowledge of current product location and ensure proper pricing
- Keep check stand clean, neat and stocked
- Stock, price and rotate merchandise
- Perform duties at multi-station self-checkout lanes as needed
- Assist at customer service counter as assigned
- Follow all state and federal laws concerning sale of restricted items including tobacco and alcohol
- Adhere to USDA Food Stamp and WIC voucher procedures
- Monitor multiple transactions at self-checkout kiosks and assist customers
- Manage and clear errors or alerts at self-checkout stations
- Prioritize safety of employees and customers by addressing or reporting concerns
