Job Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends and holidays
- Ability to perform friendly and courteous relations with customers and co-workers
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
- Ability to complete written forms
- Ability to conduct visual inspection and read information on merchandise
- Ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods and perform physical activities such as walking, bending, stooping, twisting
- Manual dexterity and good hand/eye coordination
- Ability to learn and memorize PLU codes, product locations, check stand and keyboard procedures, and company policies
- Ability to ensure accuracy in scanning and verifying transactions with basic math skills
- Ability to occasionally use blades for box cutting
- Ability to maintain work area using household cleaners
- Ability to handle high-stress situations and unsatisfied customers
- Food safety/handlers cards, tobacco and alcohol sales certification as required by state and local laws
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Experience in customer service or retail environment preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers and team members
- Basic math skills for handling transactions
- Ability to operate check stand and self-checkout equipment
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Ability to maintain a friendly, courteous, and tactful demeanor
Job Duties
- Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- Maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service
- Operate check stand equipment such as cash register, scanner and scale
- Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- Process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, coupons and refunds
- Maintain knowledge of current product location, monitor UPC codes and ensure proper pricing
- Maintain clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and safe work area
- Stock, price and rotate merchandise
- May be assigned to multi station self-checkout lane
- May be assigned to customer service counter
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Follow all state and federal laws concerning the sale of restricted or regulated items
- Adhere to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
- Regularly move within self-checkout area to expedite transactions and maintain safety
- Initiate and engage contact with customers at self-checkout
- Respond to alerts and errors at SCO stations
- Monitor multiple simultaneous transactions and verify payments
- Routinely assist customers at self-checkout kiosks to ensure accuracy and limit shrinkage
- Maintain high awareness of SCO area and prioritize safety
