Job Requirements
- Minimum age of 16 years or older
- Ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including night weekends and holidays
- Ability to perform friendly courteous tactful relations with customers and co workers with composure
- Ability to communicate via hearing and speech to perform customer relation tasks
- Ability to complete written forms
- Ability to conduct visual inspections and read information on merchandise
- Ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers scanners and scales
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods walk rapidly bend stoop twist and turn frequently
- Manual dexterity and good hand eye coordination
- Ability to learn and memorize considerable information including PLU codes location of products check stand and keyboard procedures and company policies
- Ability to ensure accuracy in scanning and verifying sales and handling monetary transactions with mental alertness and basic math skills
- Ability to occasionally use blades for box cutting
- Ability to use household cleaners to maintain work area
- Ability to navigate and manage potentially high stress situations volatile or unsatisfied customers and high volume of transactions
- As required by applicable state and local laws food safety handlers cards tobacco and alcohol sales certification e g TAM card
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous retail or cashier experience is an asset
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to engage with customers in a friendly and professional manner
- Basic math skills for handling transactions
- Ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers and scanners
- Ability to work varied shifts including nights weekends and holidays

Job Duties
- Seek opportunities to welcome engage serve and thank customers
- Maintain an atmosphere of friendly enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis on taking care of the customer
- Operate check stand equipment such as cash register scanner and scale to process customer orders using two aisles
- Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- Process monetary transactions including cash checks gift certificates travelers checks food stamps coupons and refunds adhering to cash handling and lane accountability policies
- Maintain knowledge of current product location monitor UPC codes and ensure proper pricing
- Maintain clean neat and properly stocked check stand and ensure safe and secure work area
- Stock price and rotate merchandise
- May be assigned to a multi station self-checkout lane as needed
- May be assigned to the customer service counter as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned or needed
- Follow all state and federal laws concerning the sale of any restricted or regulated items such as tobacco and alcohol
- Adhere to all USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
- Regularly move within SCO area to expedite transactions maintain attentive presence and keep area clear of safety hazards
- Initiate and engage contact with customers as they process their transactions
- Respond to SCO stations to accurately review address and clear alerts and or errors with customer transactions
- Monitor multiple simultaneous transactions and verify payment in fast paced setting
- Actively and routinely engage with customers at self checkout kiosks to assist in transactions ensure accuracy and limit shrinkage
- Maintain a high level of awareness of the self checkout area and customers anticipate customer needs monitor transaction activity make regular eye contact with customers observe bottom of the basket etc
- Prioritize safety of employees and customers by addressing or reporting concerns as provided by company policy
