Job Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays in a 24/7 operation
- Ability to communicate verbally and comprehend communication effectively
- Ability to complete written forms accurately
- Ability to visually inspect merchandise and read product information
- Ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods, walk rapidly and perform physical movements like bending and twisting
- Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- Ability to memorize PLU codes, product locations and company policies
- Ability to handle cash transactions with accuracy and mental alertness
- Occasionally use blades for box cutting
- Ability to use household cleaners safely
- Ability to manage high volume and high stress customer interactions
- Compliance with food safety, tobacco and alcohol sales certification as required by state and local laws
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous customer service or retail experience is advantageous
- Ability to perform friendly, courteous, tactful relations with customers and co-workers
- Basic math skills including add, subtract, multiply and divide
- Ability to learn and memorize substantial product and company information
- Effective communication skills with clear hearing and speech
- Ability to safely operate check stand equipment
- Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- Ability to handle high stress situations and resolve customer concerns tactfully
- Familiarity with cash handling and lane accountability procedures
Job Duties
- Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- Maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service
- Operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners and scales
- Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- Process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, coupons and refunds
- Maintain knowledge of product locations, monitor UPC codes and ensure proper pricing
- Maintain clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensure safe work area
- Stock, price and rotate merchandise
- May be assigned to multi station self-checkout lane or customer service counter
- Follow all state and federal laws concerning sale of restricted items
- Adhere to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
- Regularly move within SCO area to expedite transactions and maintain safety
- Engage customers at self-checkout kiosks to assist and ensure accuracy
- Monitor multiple simultaneous transactions and verify payment
- Prioritize safety of employees and customers by addressing concerns as per company policy
