Job Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to perform friendly, courteous and tactful relations with customers and co-workers
  • Ability to communicate (hearing and speech) to perform customer relation tasks
  • Ability to complete written forms
  • Ability to conduct visual inspection and read merchandise information
  • Ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently
  • Must have manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to learn and memorize a considerable amount of information including PLU codes, product locations, keyboard procedures and company policies
  • Ability to ensure accuracy in scanning and verifying sales and handling monetary transactions with mental alertness and basic math skills
  • Ability to occasionally use blades for box cutting
  • Ability to use household cleaners to maintain the work area
  • Ability to navigate and manage high-stress situations and handle unsatisfied customers professionally
  • Willingness to comply with all company policies and applicable laws
  • As required, must have food safety/handlers cards and tobacco/alcohol sales certification as applicable by state and local laws

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous retail or customer service experience beneficial
  • Ability to learn and memorize product location and PLU codes
  • Basic math skills for handling transactions
  • Strong communication skills
  • Familiarity with cash registers and self-checkout equipment

Job Duties

  • Seeks opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
  • Maintains an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis on taking care of the customer
  • Operates check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners and scales to process customer orders
  • Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
  • Processes monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, travelers checks, food stamps, coupons, and refunds while adhering to all cash handling and lane accountability policies
  • Maintains knowledge of product location, monitors UPC codes and ensures proper pricing
  • Maintains clean, neat and properly stocked check stands and ensures a safe work area
  • Stocks, prices and rotates merchandise
  • May be assigned to self-checkout lanes or customer service counters as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Follows all state and federal laws concerning the sale of restricted or regulated items such as tobacco and alcohol
  • Adheres to USDA Food Stamp and WIC voucher procedures
  • Regularly moves within self-checkout area to expedite transactions and maintain safety
  • Initiates and maintains contact with customers at self-checkout
  • Responds to self-checkout alerts and errors
  • Monitors multiple transactions and verifies payments in a fast-paced environment
  • Engages proactively with customers to assist in self-checkout transactions and limit shrinkage
  • Prioritizes safety by addressing or reporting concerns per company policy
