Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age or older
  • ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays in a 24/7 operation
  • ability to perform friendly, courteous, tactful interactions with customers and coworkers
  • ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • ability to perform visual inspections and read product information
  • ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
  • ability to stand or sit for long periods, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently
  • manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • ability to memorize information including PLU codes, location of products, procedures and policies
  • ability to ensure scanning accuracy and handle cash transactions with mental alertness and basic math skills
  • ability to occasionally use box cutting blades
  • ability to maintain cleanliness of work area with household cleaning supplies
  • ability to navigate high stress situations and manage unsatisfied customers
  • as required by law, obtain food safety/handler cards and certifications for tobacco and alcohol sales such as TAM card

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • prior experience in retail or customer service preferred
  • ability to operate check stand equipment including cash registers, scanners and scales
  • effective communication skills including hearing and speech
  • basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • ability to memorize and recall a considerable amount of product information, PLU codes, and procedures
  • ability to manage high volume customer transactions accurately and efficiently
  • knowledge of cash handling and lane accountability policies
  • customer-oriented attitude with ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Job Duties

  • Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
  • maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis on taking care of the customer
  • operate check stand equipment such as a cash register, scanner and scale to process customer orders using two aisles
  • engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
  • process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, coupons, and refunds
  • maintain knowledge of current product location, monitor UPC codes and ensure proper pricing
  • maintain clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensure safe and secure work area
  • stock, price and rotate merchandise
  • may be assigned to a multi-station self-checkout lane as needed
  • may be assigned to the customer service counter as needed
  • perform other duties as assigned or needed
  • follow all state and federal laws concerning the sale of restricted or regulated items such as tobacco and alcohol
  • adhere to all United States Department of Agriculture Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
  • regularly move within SCO area to expedite transactions, maintain attentive presence and keep area clear of safety hazards
  • initiate and engage contact with customers as they process their transactions
  • respond to SCO stations to review, address and clear alerts and errors with customer transactions
  • monitor multiple simultaneous transactions and verify payment in fast paced setting
  • actively and routinely engage with customers at self-checkout kiosks to assist in transactions, ensure accuracy and limit shrinkage
  • maintain high level of awareness of the self-checkout area and customers, anticipate customer needs, and monitor transaction activity
  • prioritize safety of employees and customers by addressing or reporting concerns as provided by Company policy
