Job Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to perform friendly and courteous interactions with customers and co-workers
  • Ability to communicate effectively (hearing and speech)
  • Ability to complete written forms
  • Ability to visually inspect and read merchandise information
  • Ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners and scales
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods and perform physical activities including walking rapidly, bending, stooping, twisting and turning
  • Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to memorize product codes, company policies and operating procedures
  • Ability to ensure accuracy in transactions and handle monetary transactions with basic math skills
  • Ability to occasionally use blades for box cutting
  • Ability to use household cleaners to maintain work area
  • Ability to navigate high stress and high volume customer situations
  • Compliance with food safety/handlers cards and tobacco/alcohol sales certification as required by law

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Experience in customer service or retail is advantageous
  • Basic math skills for handling transactions
  • Ability to operate cash register and scanning equipment
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with customers and team members
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of relevant cash handling and sales procedures
  • Familiarity with suggestive selling techniques
  • Ability to maintain composure in high stress or high volume situations
  • Ability to uphold company policies and legal regulations related to sales

Job Duties

  • Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
  • Maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service
  • Operate check stand equipment such as cash register, scanner and scale
  • Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
  • Process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, coupons, and refunds
  • Maintain knowledge of current product location, monitor UPC codes and ensure proper pricing
  • Maintain clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensure safe and secure work area
  • Stock, price and rotate merchandise
  • May be assigned to a multi-station self-checkout lane as needed
  • May be assigned to the customer service counter as needed
  • Follow all state and federal laws concerning the sale of restricted or regulated items such as tobacco and alcohol
  • Adhere to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
  • Regularly move within SCO area to expedite transactions and maintain safety
  • Initiate contact with customers during transactions
  • Respond to SCO alerts and errors accurately
  • Monitor multiple simultaneous transactions at self-checkout kiosks
  • Engage with customers to assist in transactions and limit shrinkage
  • Maintain awareness of customer needs and prioritize safety
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed
