Job Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to perform friendly, courteous, tactful relations with customers and co-workers
- Communication ability including hearing and speech to perform customer relation tasks
- Ability to complete written forms
- Capability to conduct visual inspection and read information on merchandise
- Ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales
- Capability to stand or sit for long periods, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently
- Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- Ability to learn and memorize product codes, locations, procedures, and policies
- Ensure accuracy in scanning and verifying sales and handling monetary transactions with mental alertness and basic math skills
- Occasionally use blades for box cutting
- Use household cleaners to maintain work area
- Ability to navigate and manage high stress situations and volatile customers
- Valid food safety/handlers cards, tobacco and alcohol sales certification as required by state and local laws
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous retail or cashier experience is an advantage
- Strong communication skills including hearing and speech
- Ability to perform basic math operations
- Skills in operating cash registers and scanners
- Ability to memorize product locations, PLU codes, and company policies
- Customer service orientation with the ability to handle high volume transactions calmly
- Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Knowledge of food safety, tobacco, and alcohol sales certifications as applicable
Job Duties
- Welcome, engage, serve, and thank customers
- Operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales to process customer orders
- Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- Process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, coupons, and refunds while adhering to cash handling policies
- Maintain knowledge of product location, monitor UPC codes, and ensure proper pricing
- Keep the check stand clean, neat, and properly stocked while ensuring a safe work area
- Stock, price, and rotate merchandise
- Assist customers at multi-station self-checkout lanes and customer service counter as assigned
- Follow all state and federal laws regarding the sale of restricted items like tobacco and alcohol
- Regularly move within self-checkout area to expedite transactions and maintain safety
- Engage with customers to assist with self-checkout transactions and limit shrinkage
- Monitor multiple transactions and respond to alerts or errors promptly
- Maintain awareness of self-checkout area and prioritize safety of employees and customers
- Perform other duties as assigned or needed
