Job Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • perform friendly, courteous, tactful relations with customers and co-workers
  • communicate effectively including hearing and speech
  • complete written forms
  • conduct visual inspection and read merchandise information
  • lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • operate check stand equipment including cash registers, scanners and scales
  • stand or sit for long periods and perform physical movements such as walking, bending, and twisting
  • possess manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • learn and memorize substantial information including PLU codes, product locations and company policies
  • ensure accuracy in scanning and handling monetary transactions with mental alertness and math skills
  • occasionally use blades for box cutting
  • use household cleaners to maintain work area
  • navigate high stress situations and manage difficult customers
  • comply with state and local laws including food handler cards and tobacco/alcohol sales certification

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • previous retail or customer service experience desirable
  • basic math skills including add, subtract, multiply, and divide
  • good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
  • ability to learn and memorize product codes, locations and company policies
  • effective communication skills both verbal and written
  • ability to handle cash transactions accurately
  • ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays

Job Duties

  • Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
  • maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis on taking care of the customer
  • operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales to process customer orders at two aisle check stands
  • engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
  • process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, coupons, and refunds
  • maintain knowledge of current product location, monitor UPC codes, and ensure proper pricing
  • maintain clean, neat, and properly stocked check stand and ensure safe and secure work area
  • stock, price and rotate merchandise
  • may be assigned to multi station self-checkout lanes
  • may be assigned to the customer service counter
  • perform other duties as assigned
  • follow all state and federal laws concerning the sale of restricted or regulated items such as tobacco and alcohol
  • adhere to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
  • regularly move within SCO area to expedite transactions and maintain attentive presence
  • initiate and engage contact with customers at self-checkout
  • respond to SCO stations to review, address and clear alerts or errors
  • monitor multiple simultaneous transactions
  • actively engage with customers to assist transactions and limit shrinkage
  • maintain high awareness of self-checkout area
  • prioritize safety
