Job Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • capable of performing friendly and tactful relations with customers and coworkers
  • able to communicate effectively through hearing and speech
  • ability to complete written forms
  • able to conduct visual inspections and read merchandise information
  • frequently lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs
  • operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales
  • stand or sit for long periods and perform physical activities such as walking, bending, stooping, and twisting
  • possess manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • memorize PLU codes and company procedures
  • ensure accuracy in transactions and cash handling
  • occasionally use box cutting tools
  • maintain work area cleanliness using household cleaners
  • navigate high stress situations and manage unsatisfied customers
  • comply with federal and state laws relevant to food safety and sale of restricted items
  • food handler’s card and tobacco/alcohol sales certification as required by local laws

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • experience in retail or customer service preferred
  • strong communication skills
  • ability to operate checkout equipment
  • basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • ability to engage with customers in a friendly and courteous manner
  • capability to handle monetary transactions accurately
  • knowledge of product locations and pricing
  • ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • ability to follow company policies and procedures
  • attention to detail and accuracy

Job Duties

  • Welcomes, engages, serves, and thanks customers
  • operates cash registers, scanners, and scales to process customer orders
  • performs suggestive selling and other sales techniques
  • processes monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, coupons, and refunds
  • maintains product knowledge and ensures proper pricing
  • stocks, prices, and rotates merchandise
  • maintains clean and safe checkout areas
  • monitors and assists multiple self-checkout stations
  • adheres to all applicable laws regarding sale of restricted items
  • follows USDA Food Stamp and WIC voucher procedures
  • responds to self-checkout alerts and errors
  • actively engages with customers for transaction accuracy and shrinkage prevention
  • prioritizes safety of customers and employees
  • performs other duties as assigned
