Job Requirements

  • experience in bookkeeping, business, industry, retail sales, or banking
  • ability to review and interpret contracts
  • ability to use computers and various computer software programs including spreadsheets, word processing and communication packages
  • knowledge of state regulations for revenue collection of state and local funds
  • experience in cashiering functions including handling large sums of money
  • knowledge of effective customer service, critical thinking, problem solving, and proof-reading methods
  • skills in office procedures as well as oral and written communication
  • ability to handle a variety of diverse duties in a customer service environment
  • ability to organize work and make independent decisions within college guidelines
  • ability to maintain effective working relationships with office staff, students, faculty, and general public

Job Duties

  • assist students and the general public by answering inquiries related to fiscal policies and the operation of the business office
  • enter all forms of payments in the PeopleSoft/SIS system
  • verify and attach third party tuition payment authorizations to contracts
  • prepare daily deposit and associated documentation
  • process and maintain student and library accounts in the college accounts receivable database
  • work effectively with Portsmouth campus academic division and student services offices, Payroll, AIS, Facilities Management, Material Management and other internal offices
