Job Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends and holidays
- Ability to perform friendly, courteous and tactful relations with customers and co-workers with composure
- Ability to communicate effectively (hearing and speech) for customer relation tasks
- Ability to complete written forms
- Ability to conduct visual inspections and read information on merchandise
- Ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners and scales
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently
- Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- Ability to learn and memorize considerable information including PLU codes, product locations and company policies
- Ability to ensure accuracy in scanning and handling monetary transactions with basic math skills
- Ability to occasionally use blades for box cutting
- Ability to use household cleaners to maintain work area
- Ability to navigate high stress situations, volatile or unsatisfied customers and a high volume of transactions
- Compliance with any required food safety/handlers cards and tobacco and alcohol sales certification as required by state and local laws
- Ability to perform primary duties efficiently and accurately
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous retail or customer service experience is an asset
- Ability to operate cash registers and related equipment
- Basic math skills for handling transactions
- Strong communication skills for customer interaction
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of product locations and pricing preferred
- Ability to follow company policies and procedures
- Willingness to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
- Ability to maintain composure under pressure
Job Duties
- Seeks opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- Maintains an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service
- Operates check stand equipment such as cash register, scanner and scale to process customer orders
- Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- Processes monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, and coupons
- Maintains knowledge of current product locations and ensures proper pricing
- Maintains clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and safe work area
- Stocks, prices and rotates merchandise
- May be assigned to self-checkout lanes or customer service counter
- Follows all state and federal laws regarding restricted or regulated items
- Adheres to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
- Monitors and assists at self-checkout stations to expedite transactions and ensure accuracy
- Responds to self-checkout alerts and errors
- Actively engages with customers to limit shrinkage
- Prioritizes safety of employees and customers
- Performs other duties as assigned
