Job Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
  • ability to perform friendly, courteous, tactful relations with customers and co-workers
  • ability to communicate clearly to perform customer relation tasks
  • ability to complete written forms
  • ability to conduct visual inspections and read merchandise information
  • ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales
  • ability to stand or sit for long periods and perform physical movements such as walking rapidly, bending, stooping, twisting
  • ability to learn and memorize product codes, location of products, check stand procedures and company policies
  • ability to ensure accuracy in scanning and handling monetary transactions with basic math skills
  • ability to occasionally use blades for box cutting
  • ability to use household cleaners to maintain the work area
  • ability to navigate high stress situations and manage unsatisfied customers
  • adherence to food safety and age restricted product sales certification as required by state and local laws

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • prior retail or customer service experience is advantageous
  • excellent communication skills including hearing and speech
  • basic math proficiency for handling transactions
  • ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
  • familiarity with operating cash registers and checkout equipment
  • ability to engage customers with tact and composure
  • knowledge of sales and suggestive selling techniques
  • ability to adhere to company policies and procedures
  • understanding of food safety and age restricted product sale laws
  • awareness of loss prevention methods
  • capacity to perform repetitive tasks accurately
  • manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination

Job Duties

  • Welcome, engage, serve and thank customers maintaining friendly enthusiastic customer service
  • operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners and scales to process orders
  • engage in suggestive selling and sales techniques
  • process monetary transactions including cash, checks, coupons, and refunds adhering to policies
  • maintain knowledge of product location, UPC codes and ensure proper pricing
  • maintain clean, neat, and stocked check stand with a safe work area
  • stock, price and rotate merchandise
  • work at multi station self-checkout lanes or customer service counter as needed
  • follow all state and federal laws for restricted items
  • adhere to USDA food stamp and WIC voucher procedures
  • move within self-checkout area to expedite transactions and ensure safety
  • assist customers at self-checkout kiosks ensuring transaction accuracy and limit shrinkage
  • respond to self-checkout alerts and errors
  • monitor multiple transactions in a fast paced setting
  • engage proactively with customers to anticipate needs
  • report safety concerns according to company policy
  • perform other assigned duties as needed
