Job Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends and holidays
- perform friendly, courteous and tactful relations with customers and co-workers
- communicate effectively in spoken language
- complete written forms
- conduct visual inspection and read information on merchandise
- lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners and scales
- stand or sit for long periods
- bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently
- manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- learn and memorize PLU codes, product locations, check stand and keyboard procedures
- ensure accuracy in scanning and monetary transactions using basic math
- occasionally use blades for box cutting
- use household cleaners to maintain work area
- handle potentially high stress situations and volatile customers
- follow state and local laws including food safety/handlers cards and tobacco and alcohol sales certification as required
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- prior retail or customer service experience beneficial
- strong interpersonal and communication skills
- ability to operate check stand equipment effectively
- knowledge of basic cash handling procedures
- ability to maintain composure and tact in customer interactions
- ability to memorize product locations and procedures
- basic math skills for transaction accuracy
- ability to learn and apply company policies and regulations
- ability to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
Job Duties
- Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners and scales to process customer orders using two aisles
- engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, coupons, food stamps and refunds
- maintain knowledge of current product location, monitor UPC codes and ensure proper pricing
- maintain clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensure safe and secure work area
- stock, price and rotate merchandise
- may be assigned to multi-station self-checkout lane or customer service counter
- perform other duties as assigned
- follow all state and federal laws concerning sale of restricted or regulated items
- adhere to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
- monitor and assist customers at self-checkout stations
- respond to alerts and errors at self-checkout
- maintain safety
- engage with customers to ensure accurate transactions and limit shrinkage
- prioritize employee and customer safety
