Job Requirements
- must be 16 years of age or older
- ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends and holidays
- ability to perform friendly, courteous and tactful relations with customers and co-workers
- ability to communicate effectively with hearing and speech
- ability to complete written forms
- ability to conduct visual inspection and read product information
- ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers and scanners
- ability to stand, sit, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently for long periods
- manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- ability to learn and memorize a large amount of product information and company procedures
- ensure accuracy in scanning and handling monetary transactions
- occasionally use blades for box cutting
- use household cleaners to maintain work area
- navigate and manage potentially high stress situations and high customer volumes
- compliance with applicable state and local certifications such as food safety handler cards and tobacco and alcohol sales certification where required
Job Qualifications
- high school diploma or equivalent preferred
- previous customer service experience is a plus
- ability to communicate effectively with customers and team members
- basic math skills including add, subtract, multiply and divide
- familiarity with cash handling procedures
- ability to learn and memorize product codes and company policies
- strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- ability to maintain composure in high stress situations
- capable of working varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
- must be at least 16 years of age
Job Duties
- Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- maintain an atmosphere of friendly customer service
- operate check stand equipment including cash registers, scanners and scales
- engage in suggestive selling and sales techniques
- process monetary transactions including cash, checks, coupons and refunds
- maintain knowledge of product locations and pricing
- ensure clean, neat and stocked check stands
- stock, price and rotate merchandise
- assist in multi station self-checkout lanes as needed
- perform duties at customer service counters as assigned
- follow all laws related to restricted items sales
- adhere to USDA Food Stamp and WIC voucher guidelines
- regularly move within self-checkout area to expedite transactions
- interact with customers processing transactions
- respond to self-checkout station alerts and errors
- monitor multiple transactions and verify payment accuracy
- actively assist customers at self-checkout kiosks
- prioritize safety by addressing or reporting concerns
