Job Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends and holidays
- Perform friendly, courteous, tactful relations with customers and co-workers with composure
- Communicate effectively using hearing and speech
- Complete written forms accurately
- Conduct visual inspection and read merchandise information
- Lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Operate check stand equipment including cash registers, scanners and scales
- Stand or sit for long periods, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently
- Demonstrate manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- Learn and memorize considerable information including PLU codes, product locations and company policies
- Ensure accuracy in scanning and verifying sales and handling monetary transactions with mental alertness and basic math skills
- Occasionally use blades for box cutting
- Use household cleaners to maintain work area
- Navigate and manage high stress situations, volatile or unsatisfied customers and a high volume of transactions and customers
- Possess food safety/handler cards, tobacco and alcohol sales certification as required by applicable laws
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous retail or customer service experience beneficial
- Basic math skills including add, subtract, multiply and divide
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to handle customer interactions tactfully and courteously
- Knowledge of operating check stand equipment preferred
- Ability to learn and memorize product locations, PLU codes, and company policies
- Capability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated ability to work flexible shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Familiarity with USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures is an advantage
- Certification related to food safety or tobacco and alcohol sales preferred when applicable
Job Duties
- Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- Maintains an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with emphasis on taking care of the customer
- Operate check stand equipment such as cash register, scanner and scale to process customer orders using two aisles
- Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- Process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, coupons, and refunds while adhering to cash handling policies
- Maintain knowledge of product location, monitor UPC codes, and ensure proper pricing
- Keep check stand clean, neat, properly stocked and ensure a safe work area
- Stock, price and rotate merchandise
- May be assigned to multi-station self-checkout lane or customer service counter as needed
- Follow all state and federal laws concerning sale of restricted items such as tobacco and alcohol
- Adhere to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
- Regularly move within SCO area to expedite transactions, maintain attentive presence and keep area clear of safety hazards
- Initiate and engage contact with customers at SCO kiosks
- Respond to SCO alerts and errors accurately
- Monitor multiple simultaneous transactions and verify payment
- Actively assist customers to ensure transaction accuracy and limit shrinkage
- Maintain high awareness of self-checkout area and customer activity
- Prioritize safety by addressing or reporting concerns per Company policy
