Job Requirements
- Be at least 16 years of age or older
- work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends, and holidays
- perform friendly, courteous, tactful interactions with customers and coworkers with composure
- communicate effectively using hearing and speech
- complete written forms accurately
- conduct visual inspections and read merchandise information
- frequently lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
- operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales
- stand or sit for long periods and move rapidly with bending, stooping, twisting, and turning
- possess manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- learn and memorize substantial information including PLU codes, product locations, and company policies
- ensure accuracy in transactions and cash handling with mental alertness and basic math skills
- occasionally use blades for box cutting and household cleaners for maintaining work area
- handle potentially high-stress situations and difficult customers
- comply with all company policies and applicable laws
- obtain food safety/handlers cards and tobacco/alcohol sales certification as required by state and local laws
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- prior retail or customer service experience beneficial
- ability to operate check stand equipment
- strong communication skills including hearing and speech
- basic math skills for handling transactions
- ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
- manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- knowledge of company policies and procedures
- ability to memorize PLU codes and product locations
- ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
- willingness to engage in friendly, courteous interactions with customers and coworkers
Job Duties
- Seeks opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- maintains an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service
- operates check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales to process customer orders
- engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- processes monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, and coupons
- maintains knowledge of current product locations and proper pricing
- maintains clean and stocked check stands and ensures safety and security
- stocks, prices, and rotates merchandise
- may be assigned to self-checkout lanes or customer service desk as needed
- follows all state and federal laws concerning restricted item sales
- adheres to USDA Food Stamp and WIC voucher procedures
- monitors and assists customers at self-checkout stations
- responds to alerts and errors at self-checkout lanes
- prioritizes safety of employees and customers
