Job Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends and holidays
- Perform friendly, courteous and tactful customer relations with composure
- Communicate effectively using hearing and speech
- Complete written forms accurately
- Conduct visual inspection of merchandise and read information
- Lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Operate cash registers, scanners and scales
- Stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop, twist and turn for extended periods
- Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- Learn and recall extensive information including PLU codes, product locations and store policies
- Ensure accuracy in scanning, sales verification and monetary handling
- Occasionally use blades for box cutting
- Use approved cleaning products to maintain work area
- Navigate high-stress situations and handle unsatisfied customers
- Hold food safety/handlers cards and tobacco/alcohol sales certifications as required by law
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous retail or customer service experience is an asset
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
- Basic math skills for handling transactions
- Ability to learn and memorize product codes and store policies
- Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs
- Familiarity with cash handling and retail equipment
- Ability to maintain composure in high-stress situations
Job Duties
- Welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- Operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners and scales to process customer orders
- Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- Process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift cards and coupons
- Maintain knowledge of product locations and ensure proper pricing
- Keep check stand area clean, neat and properly stocked
- Stock, price and rotate merchandise
- Operate self-checkout lanes and respond to customer transaction alerts
- Monitor multiple transactions and verify payments
- Assist customers at self-checkout kiosks to ensure accuracy
- Ensure safety of employees and customers by addressing concerns
- Adhere to all laws concerning the sale of restricted or regulated items
- Follow USDA and WIC voucher procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned
