Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • ability to work varied shifts in 24/7 operation including nights, weekends and holidays
  • ability to perform friendly, courteous and tactful relations with customers and co-workers
  • communication skills including hearing and speech
  • ability to complete written forms
  • ability to conduct visual inspections and read merchandise information
  • lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • operate check stand equipment
  • stand or sit for long periods and perform physical activities such as walking rapidly, bending, stooping and twisting
  • manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • memorize information including PLU codes and company policies
  • ensure accuracy in scanning and verifying sales with basic math skills
  • occasionally use blades for box cutting
  • use household cleaners to maintain work area
  • handle high stress situations and unsatisfied customers
  • as required by state laws, obtain food safety/handlers cards and certification for tobacco and alcohol sales

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • experience in retail or customer service is advantageous
  • ability to operate check stand equipment including cash registers and scanners
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to process monetary transactions accurately

  • ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently

Job Duties

  • Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
  • maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service
  • operate check stand equipment such as cash register, scanner and scale to process customer orders
  • engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
  • process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, travelers checks, food stamps, coupons, and refunds
  • maintain knowledge of current product location, monitor UPC codes and ensure proper pricing
  • maintain clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensure safe and secure work area
  • stock, price and rotate merchandise
  • assist at multi-station self-checkout lanes as needed
  • assist at the customer service counter as needed
  • follow all state and federal laws concerning sale of restricted items
  • adhere to all USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
  • routinely move within SCO area to expedite transactions and maintain safety
  • initiate and engage contact with customers at self-checkout
  • respond to SCO alerts and clear errors
  • monitor multiple transactions and verify payment
  • maintain high awareness of self-checkout area and customer needs
  • prioritize safety of employees and customers by reporting concerns
