Job Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including nights weekends and holidays
- Ability to perform friendly courteous tactful relations with customers and co workers
- Effective communication skills including hearing and speech
- Ability to complete written forms
- Conduct visual inspection and read information on merchandise
- Ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers scanners and scales
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods walk rapidly bend stoop twist and turn frequently
- Manual dexterity and good hand eye coordination
- Ability to learn and memorize PLU codes product locations check stand and keyboard procedures company policies
- Ensure accuracy in scanning verifying sales and handling monetary transactions with basic math skills
- Occasionally use blades for box cutting
- Use household cleaners to maintain work area
- Perform primary duties efficiently and accurately
- Navigate and manage high stress situations volatile or unsatisfied customers high volume of transactions
- As required by state and local laws food safety handlers cards tobacco and alcohol sales certification
- For minors hired hours and equipment use may differ
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous customer service experience a plus
- Basic math skills including addition subtraction multiplication and division
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers and co workers
- Familiarity with cash handling and operating point of sale equipment
- Ability to maintain composure and tact in high stress or high volume situations
- Ability to learn and memorize product locations PLU codes and company policies
- Good manual dexterity and hand eye coordination
- Ability to work varied shifts including nights weekends and holidays
Job Duties
- Seeks opportunities to welcome engage serve and thank customers
- Operates check stand equipment such as cash registers scanners and scales to process customer orders
- Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- Processes monetary transactions including cash checks gift certificates food stamps coupons and refunds
- Maintains knowledge of product location monitors UPC codes and ensures proper pricing
- Maintains clean neat and properly stocked check stand and ensures safe and secure work area
- Stocks prices and rotates merchandise
- May be assigned to a multi station self checkout lane as needed
- May be assigned to the customer service counter as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned or needed
- Follows all state and federal laws concerning sale of restricted items such as tobacco and alcohol
- Adheres to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
- Regularly moves within self checkout area to expedite transactions and maintain safety
- Initiates and engages contact with customers processing transactions
- Responds to self checkout stations to review address and clear alerts or errors
- Monitors multiple simultaneous transactions and verifies payment
- Actively engages customers at self checkout kiosks to assist in transactions ensure accuracy and limit shrinkage
- Maintains high level of awareness in self checkout area and anticipates customer needs
- Prioritizes safety of employees and customers by addressing or reporting concerns
