Job Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays in a 24/7 operation
- Ability to perform friendly, courteous and tactful relations with customers and co-workers
- Ability to communicate effectively including hearing and speech
- Ability to complete written forms
- Ability to conduct visual inspections and read merchandise information
- Ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to operate check stand equipment
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods and perform physical activities such as bending, stooping, twisting and turning frequently
- Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- Ability to learn and memorize considerable information including PLU codes, product locations and policies
- Ability to ensure accuracy in scanning and handling monetary transactions using basic math skills
- Ability to occasionally use blades for box cutting
- Ability to use household cleaners to maintain work area
- Ability to efficiently perform primary duties
- Ability to manage high stress situations and handle unsatisfied customers
- Food safety/handlers cards and tobacco/alcohol sales certification as required by state and local laws
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Prior retail or customer service experience is beneficial
- Ability to operate cash registers, scanners and scales
- Strong communication skills for customer interaction
- Basic math skills for handling transactions
- Ability to learn and memorize product locations, PLU codes and company policies
- Customer service orientation with friendly and courteous demeanor
- Ability to work with composure in high stress and fast-paced environments
- Must be at least 16 years of age
Job Duties
- Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- Maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis on taking care of the customer
- Operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners and scales to process customer orders using two aisles
- Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- Process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, coupons and refunds
- Maintain knowledge of current product location, monitor UPC codes and ensure proper pricing
- Maintain clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensure safe and secure work area
- Stock, price and rotate merchandise
- May be assigned to multi-station self-checkout lane
- May be assigned to customer service counter
- Perform other duties as assigned or needed
- Follow all state and federal laws concerning sale of restricted items like tobacco and alcohol
- Adhere to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
- Regularly move within SCO area to expedite transactions and maintain safety
- Initiate and engage contact with customers at self-checkout
- Respond to SCO alerts and errors
- Monitor multiple transactions and verify payment
- Engage with customers at self-checkout kiosks to assist and limit shrinkage
- Maintain awareness of self-checkout area and anticipate customer needs
- Prioritize safety of employees and customers
