Job Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods and perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, twisting and walking rapidly
- Ability to lift and maneuver objects weighing up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers and co-workers
- Ability to complete written forms
- Ability to perform visual inspections and read merchandise information
- Ability to learn and memorize considerable information including PLU codes and company policies
- Ability to ensure accuracy in scanning and verifying sales and handling monetary transactions with basic math skills
- Ability to use household cleaners to maintain work area
- Ability to handle potentially high stress situations, volatile customers and high volume transactions
- Compliance with applicable state and local laws for food safety/handlers cards and certifications for tobacco and alcohol sales where required
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Prior experience in customer service or retail environment advantageous
- Ability to perform basic math operations accurately
- Strong communication skills including hearing and speech to perform customer relation tasks
- Ability to learn and memorize information related to PLU codes, product locations, check stand procedures and company policies
- Ability to operate cash registers, scanners, and scales
- Ability to interact politely and tactfully with customers and coworkers
- Good manual dexterity and hand eye coordination
Job Duties
- Seeks opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- Maintains an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis on taking care of the customer
- Operates check stand equipment such as a cash register, scanner and scale to process customer orders using two aisles
- Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- Processes monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, coupons and refunds following cash handling policies
- Maintains knowledge of product locations, monitors UPC codes and ensures proper pricing
- Maintains a clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensures a safe and secure work area
- Stocks, prices and rotates merchandise
- May be assigned to multi station self-checkout lanes or customer service counter as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Complies with all laws concerning sale of restricted items like tobacco and alcohol
- Adheres to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
- Regularly moves within SCO area to expedite transactions and maintain safety
- Initiates and engages contact with customers at self-checkout stations
- Responds to SCO station alerts and errors
- Monitors multiple simultaneous transactions
- Actively assists customers at self-checkout kiosks to ensure accuracy and limit shrinkage
- Maintains high awareness of self-checkout area and customer needs
- Prioritizes employee and customer safety by addressing concerns
