Job Requirements

Must be 16 years of age or older
Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
Ability to stand or sit for long periods and perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, twisting and walking rapidly
Ability to lift and maneuver objects weighing up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
Ability to communicate effectively with customers and co-workers
Ability to complete written forms
Ability to perform visual inspections and read merchandise information
Ability to learn and memorize considerable information including PLU codes and company policies
Ability to ensure accuracy in scanning and verifying sales and handling monetary transactions with basic math skills
Ability to use household cleaners to maintain work area
Ability to handle potentially high stress situations, volatile customers and high volume transactions
Compliance with applicable state and local laws for food safety/handlers cards and certifications for tobacco and alcohol sales where required

Job Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Prior experience in customer service or retail environment advantageous
Ability to perform basic math operations accurately
Strong communication skills including hearing and speech to perform customer relation tasks
Ability to learn and memorize information related to PLU codes, product locations, check stand procedures and company policies
Ability to operate cash registers, scanners, and scales
Ability to interact politely and tactfully with customers and coworkers
Good manual dexterity and hand eye coordination

Job Duties

Seeks opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
Maintains an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis on taking care of the customer
Operates check stand equipment such as a cash register, scanner and scale to process customer orders using two aisles
Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
Processes monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, coupons and refunds following cash handling policies
Maintains knowledge of product locations, monitors UPC codes and ensures proper pricing
Maintains a clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensures a safe and secure work area
Stocks, prices and rotates merchandise
May be assigned to multi station self-checkout lanes or customer service counter as needed
Performs other duties as assigned
Complies with all laws concerning sale of restricted items like tobacco and alcohol
Adheres to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
Regularly moves within SCO area to expedite transactions and maintain safety
Initiates and engages contact with customers at self-checkout stations
Responds to SCO station alerts and errors
Monitors multiple simultaneous transactions
Actively assists customers at self-checkout kiosks to ensure accuracy and limit shrinkage
Maintains high awareness of self-checkout area and customer needs
Prioritizes employee and customer safety by addressing concerns
