Job Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including night, weekends and holidays
- Perform friendly, courteous, tactful relations with customers and co-workers with composure
- Communicate (hearing and speech) to perform customer relation tasks
- Complete written forms
- Conduct visual inspection and read information on merchandise
- Lift and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to 20 lbs frequently
- Lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales
- Stand or sit for long periods, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently for long periods
- Manual dexterity and good hand/eye coordination
- Learn and memorize considerable information including PLU codes, product locations, check stand and keyboard procedures and company policies
- Ensure accuracy in scanning and verifying sales and handling monetary transactions with mental alertness and basic math skills
- Occasionally use blades for box cutting
- Use household cleaners to maintain work area
- Perform primary duties efficiently and accurately
- Navigate and manage high stress situations, volatile or unsatisfied customers, and a high volume of transactions and customers
- Food safety/handlers cards, tobacco and alcohol sales certification as required by applicable state and local laws
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous retail or cashier experience preferred
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to engage customers positively
- Cash handling experience is a plus
- Basic math skills including add, subtract, multiply and divide
- Ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners and scales
- Ability to memorize PLU codes, location of products and company policies
- Ability to handle high volume transactions accurately and efficiently
- Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
Job Duties
- Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- Maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with emphasis on taking care of the customer
- Operate check stand equipment such as cash register, scanner and scale to process customer orders using two aisles to check customers
- Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- Process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, travelers checks, food stamps, processing coupons, and refunds while adhering to all cash handling and lane accountability policies and procedures
- Maintain knowledge of current product location, monitor UPC codes and ensure proper pricing
- Maintain clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensure safe and secure work area
- Stock, price and rotate merchandise
- May be assigned to multi station self-checkout lanes and customer service counter as needed
- Follow all state and federal laws concerning sale of restricted or regulated items such as tobacco and alcohol
- Adhere to all USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
- Regularly move within SCO area to expedite transactions, maintain attentive presence and keep area clear of safety hazards
- Initiate and engage contact with customers during transactions
- Respond to SCO stations to review, address and clear alerts or errors
- Monitor multiple simultaneous transactions and verify payment in fast paced setting
- Actively engage with customers at self-checkout kiosks to assist and ensure accuracy and limit shrinkage
- Maintain high level of awareness of self-checkout area and customers and prioritize safety of employees and customers by addressing or reporting concerns as per company policy
