Job Requirements

  • Less than high school education
  • No prior experience required
  • Ability to use barcode reading equipment and cash registers

Job Duties

  • Scan and tender out customer orders quickly while having conversation with customers
  • Offer assistance to ensure a great shopping experience
  • Use electronic scanners, cash registers, or related equipment to process transactions
  • Process credit, debit, or SNAP benefits card transactions and validate checks
  • Page another associate if the checkout line exceeds 3 customers or orders are large to expedite service
  • Receive payments by cash, check, credit cards, vouchers, or automatic debits
  • Answer customer questions and provide information on procedures or policies
  • Help customers find products locations within the store
  • Issue receipts, refunds, credits, or provide change due
  • Greet customers entering the store
  • Supervise and provide on-the-job training to others
  • Assist customers by providing information and resolving complaints
  • Maintain clean and orderly checkout areas and perform general cleaning duties
  • Establish or identify prices, tabulate bills using calculators, cash registers, or scanners
  • Answer incoming phone calls
  • Bag, box, wrap, or gift-wrap merchandise and prepare packages
  • Assist with duties in other areas such as monitoring fitting rooms or stocking shelves
  • Offer carry-out service upon transaction completion
  • Count money in cash drawers at shift start
  • Step in to help wherever needed across the team
  • Perform tasks involving working directly with the public and communicating effectively
