Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous retail or cashier experience preferred
  • Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Ability to handle cash and monetary transactions accurately
  • Effective communication skills including hearing and speech
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend and perform repetitive tasks for extended durations
  • Capable of learning and memorizing product codes and company policies
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Possession of food safety/handler cards and certifications for tobacco and alcohol sales as required by state and local laws

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to perform friendly, courteous, tactful relations with customers and co-workers with composure
  • Effective hearing and speech communication skills for customer relations
  • Ability to complete written forms
  • Capability to conduct visual inspections and read merchandise information
  • Physical ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and 50 lbs occasionally
  • Proficiency in operating check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners and scales
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently
  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to learn and memorize PLU codes, product locations, and company policies
  • Accuracy in scanning, verifying sales, and handling monetary transactions with basic math skills
  • Capability to occasionally use blades for box cutting
  • Ability to maintain work area cleanliness using household cleaners
  • Ability to navigate high-stress situations involving unsatisfied customers and high transaction volumes

Job Duties

  • Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
  • Maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with emphasis on taking care of the customer
  • Operate check stand equipment such as cash register, scanner and scale to process customer orders using two aisles
  • Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
  • Process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, coupons, and refunds
  • Maintain knowledge of current product location, monitor UPC codes and ensure proper pricing
  • Maintain clean, neat and properly stocked check stand
  • Stock, price and rotate merchandise
  • May be assigned to multi-station self-checkout lane or customer service counter
  • Follow all state and federal laws concerning sale of restricted or regulated items including tobacco and alcohol
  • Adhere to United States Department of Agriculture Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
  • Regularly move within self-checkout area to expedite transactions and maintain safety
  • Initiate contact and engage customers at self-checkout stations
  • Respond to transaction alerts and errors promptly
  • Monitor multiple simultaneous transactions in fast-paced setting
  • Assist customers to ensure accuracy and limit shrinkage
  • Maintain high awareness of self-checkout area and prioritize safety
