Job Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to perform friendly, courteous, tactful relations with customers and co-workers with composure
  • Ability to communicate (hearing and speech) to perform customer relation tasks
  • Ability to complete written forms
  • Ability to perform visual inspection and read merchandise information
  • Ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently
  • Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to learn and memorize significant information including PLU codes, location of products, check stand and keyboard procedures and company policies
  • Mental alertness and basic math skills to ensure accuracy in transactions
  • Occasionally use blades for box cutting
  • Use household cleaners to maintain work area
  • Navigate and manage potentially high stress situations and unsatisfied customers
  • Compliance with state and local laws concerning food safety/handlers cards and tobacco and alcohol sales certification as required

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Prior retail or cashier experience is an asset but not required
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and team members
  • Ability to learn and memorize PLU codes, product locations and company policies
  • Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • Employee stock ownership or related experience is a plus
  • Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays

Job Duties

  • Seeks opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
  • Maintains an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis on taking care of the customer
  • Operates check stand equipment such as a cash register, scanner and scale to process customer orders using two aisles
  • Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
  • Processes monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, coupons, and refunds
  • Maintains knowledge of current product location, monitors UPC codes and ensures proper pricing
  • Maintains clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensures safe and secure work area
  • Stocks, prices and rotates merchandise
  • May be assigned to a multi station self-checkout lane as needed
  • May be assigned to the customer service counter as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed
  • Follows all state and federal laws concerning the sale of restricted or regulated items
  • Adheres to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
  • Regularly moves within SCO area to expedite transactions, maintain attentive presence and keep area clear of safety hazards
  • Initiates and engages contact with customers as they process transactions
  • Responds to SCO stations to review, address and clear alerts or errors
  • Monitors multiple transactions and verifies payment in fast paced setting
  • Actively engages with customers at self-checkout to assist in transactions, ensure accuracy, and limit shrinkage
  • Maintains awareness of self-checkout area and customers
  • Prioritizes safety of employees and customers by reporting concerns
