Job Requirements

  • Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
  • perform friendly and tactful relations with customers and co-workers
  • communicate effectively using hearing and speech
  • complete written forms
  • conduct visual inspections of merchandise
  • lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • operate check stand equipment
  • stand, walk rapidly, bend, stoop and twist frequently
  • manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • learn and memorize considerable information including PLU codes and company policies
  • ensure accuracy scanning and verifying sales
  • occasionally use blades for box cutting
  • use household cleaners to maintain work area
  • manage high stress situations
  • comply with food safety and alcohol/tobacco sales certifications as required by state and local laws
  • must be 16 years of age or older

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • previous retail or cashier experience preferred
  • strong communication skills
  • ability to engage customers with friendly and courteous service
  • basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • ability to learn and memorize product codes and company policies
  • understanding of cash handling and sales transactions
  • physical ability to stand or sit for long periods and perform repetitive tasks
  • age 16 or older

Job Duties

  • Seeks opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
  • maintains an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service
  • operates check stand equipment such as cash register, scanner and scale
  • engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
  • processes monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, travelers checks, food stamps, coupons and refunds
  • maintains knowledge of current product location and pricing
  • maintains clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensures safe work area
  • stocks, prices and rotates merchandise
  • assigned to multi station self-checkout lane or customer service counter as needed
  • follows state and federal laws on sale of restricted items
  • adheres to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
  • actively monitors and assists customers at self-checkout
  • moves within SCO area to expedite transactions and ensure safety
  • responds to alerts and errors in self-checkout transactions
  • prioritizes safety of employees and customers
