Job Requirements
- Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
- perform friendly and tactful relations with customers and co-workers
- communicate effectively using hearing and speech
- complete written forms
- conduct visual inspections of merchandise
- lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- operate check stand equipment
- stand, walk rapidly, bend, stoop and twist frequently
- manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- learn and memorize considerable information including PLU codes and company policies
- ensure accuracy scanning and verifying sales
- occasionally use blades for box cutting
- use household cleaners to maintain work area
- manage high stress situations
- comply with food safety and alcohol/tobacco sales certifications as required by state and local laws
- must be 16 years of age or older
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- previous retail or cashier experience preferred
- strong communication skills
- ability to engage customers with friendly and courteous service
- basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- ability to learn and memorize product codes and company policies
- understanding of cash handling and sales transactions
- physical ability to stand or sit for long periods and perform repetitive tasks
- age 16 or older
Job Duties
- Seeks opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- maintains an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service
- operates check stand equipment such as cash register, scanner and scale
- engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- processes monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, travelers checks, food stamps, coupons and refunds
- maintains knowledge of current product location and pricing
- maintains clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensures safe work area
- stocks, prices and rotates merchandise
- assigned to multi station self-checkout lane or customer service counter as needed
- follows state and federal laws on sale of restricted items
- adheres to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
- actively monitors and assists customers at self-checkout
- moves within SCO area to expedite transactions and ensure safety
- responds to alerts and errors in self-checkout transactions
- prioritizes safety of employees and customers
