Job Requirements

  • Ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Perform friendly, courteous, tactful relations with customers and coworkers with composure
  • Communicate (hearing and speech) to perform customer relation tasks
  • Complete written forms
  • Conduct visual inspections and read information on merchandise
  • Lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners and scales
  • Stand or sit for long periods, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently
  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • Learn and memorize considerable information including PLU codes, product location, check stand and keyboard procedures, and company policies
  • Ensure accuracy in scanning and verifying sales and handling monetary transactions with mental alertness and basic math skills
  • Occasionally use blades for box cutting
  • Use household cleaners to maintain work area
  • Perform duties efficiently and accurately
  • Navigate and manage high-stress situations with volatile or unsatisfied customers
  • As required by applicable state and local laws, hold food safety/handlers cards and tobacco and alcohol sales certification (e.g., TAM card)

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Prior retail or customer service experience is a plus
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with customers and coworkers
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Capability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers and scanners
  • Strong manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist and turn for extended periods
  • Ability to memorize product location, PLU codes and company policies
  • Ability to manage high-stress situations and interact tactfully with volatile or unsatisfied customers
  • Must be at least 16 years of age

Job Duties

  • Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
  • Maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis on taking care of the customer
  • Operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners and scales to process customer orders using two aisles
  • Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
  • Process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, coupons and refunds while adhering to all cash handling and lane accountability policies
  • Maintain knowledge of current product location, monitor UPC codes and ensure proper pricing
  • Maintain clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensure a safe and secure work area
  • Stock, price and rotate merchandise
  • Be assigned to multi-station self-checkout lanes or customer service counter as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Follow all state and federal laws concerning the sale of restricted or regulated items such as tobacco and alcohol
  • Adhere to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
  • Regularly move within the SCO area to expedite transactions and maintain attentive presence
  • Initiate and engage contact with customers at self-checkout stations
  • Respond to SCO alerts and errors promptly
  • Monitor multiple simultaneous transactions and verify payments
  • Engage actively with customers to ensure transaction accuracy and limit shrinkage
  • Maintain high awareness of the self-checkout area and customers
  • Prioritize safety by addressing or reporting concerns as per company policy
