Job Requirements

  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays in a 24/7 operation
  • stand or sit for long periods and be physically able to lift and maneuver objects up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • perform repetitious work accurately
  • operate equipment such as cash registers and scanners
  • have good communication skills for customer relations
  • use household cleaners to maintain work area
  • perform duties efficiently and accurately
  • comply with state and local laws for food safety and restricted sales
  • occasionally use blades for box cutting

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to perform friendly, courteous, tactful relations with customers and co-workers with composure
  • communicate effectively using hearing and speech
  • complete written forms accurately
  • conduct visual inspection and read merchandise information
  • operate check stand equipment including cash registers, scanners, and scales
  • manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • learn and memorize information including PLU codes, product location, and company policies
  • ensure scanning accuracy and handle monetary transactions with basic math skills
  • navigate high-stress situations and handle interactions with unsatisfied customers
  • knowledge of food safety/handlers cards and tobacco/alcohol sales certification as required by state laws
  • must be 16 years of age or older

Job Duties

  • Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
  • maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis on taking care of the customer
  • operate check stand equipment such as cash register, scanner, and scale
  • engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
  • process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, coupons, and refunds in compliance with policies
  • maintain knowledge of product location, UPC codes, and pricing
  • keep check stand clean, neat, and properly stocked
  • stock, price, and rotate merchandise
  • may be assigned to self-checkout lane or customer service counter as needed
  • perform other duties as assigned
  • follow all laws regarding sale of restricted items
  • adhere to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
  • for self-checkout attendants: regularly move within SCO area to expedite transactions and maintain safety
  • initiate contact with customers during transactions
  • respond to and clear alerts or errors
  • monitor multiple transactions and verify payment accuracy
  • engage customers to ensure transaction accuracy and limit shrinkage
  • maintain awareness of the SCO area and prioritize safety
  • report safety concerns as per policy
