Job Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation including night, weekends and holidays
- Ability to perform friendly, courteous, tactful relations with customers and co-workers with composure
- Ability to communicate (hearing and speech) to perform customer relation tasks
- Ability to complete written forms
- Ability to conduct visual inspection and read information on merchandise
- Ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently for long periods
- Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- Ability to learn and memorize a considerable amount of information including PLU codes, location of products, check stand and keyboard procedures and company policies
- Ability to ensure accuracy in scanning and verifying sales and handling monetary transactions with mental alertness and basic math skills
- Ability to occasionally use blades for box cutting
- Ability to use household cleaners to maintain work area efficiently and accurately
- Ability to navigate and manage potentially high stress situations, volatile or unsatisfied customers, and high volumes of transactions and customers
- Food safety/handler cards and tobacco and alcohol sales certification as required by applicable state and local laws
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous retail or cashier experience advantageous but not required
- Strong customer service skills
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- Ability to operate cash registers, scanners and scales
- Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Ability to memorize product PLU codes and company procedures
- Effective communication skills for customer interactions
- Ability to handle high volume transactions and manage stress
- Willingness to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and holidays
- Must be at least 16 years of age
Job Duties
- Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- Maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis on taking care of the customer
- Operate check stand equipment such as cash register, scanner and scale to process customer orders using two aisles
- Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- Process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, travelers checks, food stamps, coupons, and refunds
- Maintain knowledge of current product location, monitor UPC codes and ensure proper pricing
- Maintain clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensure safe and secure work area
- Stock, price and rotate merchandise
- May be assigned to a multi station self-checkout lane or customer service counter as needed
- Follow all state and federal laws concerning the sale of restricted or regulated items such as tobacco and alcohol
- Adhere to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
- Regularly move within self-checkout area to expedite transactions, maintain attentive presence and keep area clear of safety hazards
- Initiate and engage contact with customers processing their transactions
- Respond to self-checkout station alerts and errors
- Monitor multiple simultaneous transactions and verify payment
- Engage proactively with customers at self-checkout kiosks to assist and ensure accuracy
- Prioritize safety of employees and customers by addressing or reporting concerns as per company policy
