Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • effective communication skills for interacting with customers and co-workers
  • ability to read and complete written forms
  • manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • physical ability to lift up to 20 lbs. frequently and 50 lbs. occasionally
  • ability to stand, sit, bend, twist, and walk for extended periods
  • ability to learn and memorize extensive information such as PLU codes and company policies
  • mental alertness for accuracy in scanning and handling money
  • occasionally use blades for box cutting safely
  • maintain cleanliness using approved household cleaners
  • ability to handle high-stress situations and volatile customers
  • compliance with state and local certification requirements such as food handling cards and tobacco/alcohol sales certification where applicable

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • prior retail or customer service experience is an advantage
  • basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • strong verbal communication skills
  • ability to operate check stand equipment
  • ability to memorize PLU codes and store policies
  • ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • demonstrate friendly and courteous customer service attitude
  • knowledge of cash handling procedures
  • ability to comply with food safety and regulatory requirements
  • physical ability to stand for long periods and lift weights up to 50 lbs.
  • age 16 or older

Job Duties

  • Welcome, engage, serve, and thank customers
  • operate check stand equipment including cash registers, scanners, and scales
  • engage in suggestive selling and sales techniques
  • process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, and refunds
  • maintain knowledge of product locations, monitor UPC codes, and ensure pricing accuracy
  • maintain clean and properly stocked checkout areas
  • stock, price, and rotate merchandise
  • manage multi-station self-checkout lanes as assigned
  • assist customers at the service desk as needed
  • follow all state and federal laws concerning restricted items sales
  • adhere to USDA Food Stamp and WIC procedures
  • expedite transactions and maintain safety in SCO areas
  • engage customers during self-checkout transactions
  • respond to and resolve SCO alerts and errors
  • monitor multiple transactions and verify payments
  • actively prevent shrinkage
  • maintain awareness of SCO area and anticipate customer needs
  • prioritize safety of employees and customers
