Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
  • capable of performing friendly, courteous and tactful relations with customers and co-workers
  • ability to communicate via hearing and speech for customer relations
  • ability to complete written forms
  • capable of conducting visual inspections and reading information on merchandise
  • ability to lift and maneuver up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • ability to operate cash registers, scanners and scales
  • able to stand or sit for long periods and move frequently
  • manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • must learn and memorize PLU codes, product locations, check stand and keyboard procedures, and company policies
  • ensure accuracy in scanning and monetary handling with mental alertness and basic math skills
  • occasionally use box cutting blades
  • use household cleaners to maintain the work area
  • navigate and manage high stress situations and unsatisfied customers
  • comply with applicable state and local laws regarding food safety, tobacco and alcohol sales certification
  • understand that hours and accessible equipment may vary for minors

Job Duties

  • Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
  • maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service
  • operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners and scales to process orders
  • engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
  • process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, coupons and refunds
  • maintain knowledge of current product locations and pricing
  • keep check stand clean, neat and properly stocked
  • stock, price and rotate merchandise
  • assist at multi-station self-checkout lanes as needed
  • assist at customer service counter as needed
  • perform other duties as assigned
  • follow all state and federal laws concerning restricted or regulated items
  • adhere to United States Department of Agriculture Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
  • regularly monitor self-checkout area to expedite transactions and maintain safety
  • initiate and engage contact with customers at self-checkout
  • respond promptly to errors and alerts on SCO stations
  • monitor multiple simultaneous transactions
  • actively engage with customers to ensure accuracy and limit shrinkage
  • maintain high awareness of self-checkout area and prioritize safety of employees and customers
