Job Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to perform friendly, courteous and tactful relations with customers and co-workers
  • Ability to communicate effectively using hearing and speech
  • Ability to complete written forms
  • Ability to conduct visual inspection and read information on merchandise
  • Ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods and move frequently
  • Manual dexterity and good hand/eye coordination
  • Ability to learn and memorize information including PLU codes, product location and company policies
  • Mental alertness with basic math skills
  • Ability to use household cleaners and blades for box cutting
  • Ability to manage high stress situations and unsatisfied customers
  • As required by state and local laws, food safety/handlers cards and tobacco and alcohol sales certification

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Prior retail or customer service experience beneficial but not mandatory
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to learn and memorize product codes and store policies
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Ability to handle monetary transactions accurately
  • Demonstrated ability to manage high stress situations
  • Customer-oriented attitude
  • Ability to operate check stand and self-checkout equipment
  • Knowledge of safety and cash handling procedures

Job Duties

  • Welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
  • Operate check stand equipment such as cash register, scanner and scale
  • Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
  • Process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, coupons and refunds
  • Maintain knowledge of current product location, UPC codes and ensure proper pricing
  • Maintain clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensure safety
  • Stock, price and rotate merchandise
  • Assist at multi station self-checkout lane as needed
  • Assist at customer service counter as needed
  • Follow state and federal laws concerning sale of restricted items
  • Adhere to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
  • Monitor self-checkout stations and expedite customer transactions
  • Respond to alerts and errors at self-checkout
  • Engage with customers at self-checkout kiosks to ensure accuracy and limit shrinkage
  • Maintain awareness of self-checkout area and customers
  • Prioritize safety of employees and customers
  • Perform other duties as assigned
