Job Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays in a 24/7 operation
- must perform duties with friendly, courteous and tactful relations with customers and co-workers
- ability to communicate verbally (hearing and speech) and complete written forms
- ability to visually inspect merchandise and read information
- ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- ability to stand or sit for long periods, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently
- manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
- ability to learn and memorize significant information including PLU codes, product locations and company policies
- mental alertness and basic math skills for accurate cash handling
- ability to occasionally use blades for box cutting
- able to use household cleaners to maintain work area
- ability to navigate high stress situations and work with volatile or unsatisfied customers
- as required by applicable state and local laws, food safety/handlers cards and tobacco and alcohol sales certification (e.g., TAM card)
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- experience in retail or customer service environment advantageous
- ability to operate cash registers, scanners and scales
- strong communication skills with ability to interact courteously with customers and team members
- basic math skills for handling monetary transactions
- ability to learn and memorize product codes, pricing, and company policies
- physical stamina to stand, walk and bend for extended periods
- attention to detail and ability to ensure accuracy in transactions
- experience with sales techniques such as suggestive selling
Job Duties
- Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis on taking care of the customer
- operate check stand equipment such as a cash register, scanner and scale to process customer orders using two aisles
- engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, coupons, refunds, and food stamps while adhering to Cash Handling and Lane Accountability policies
- maintain knowledge of current product location, monitor UPC codes and ensure proper pricing
- maintain clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensure safe and secure work area
- stock, price and rotate merchandise
- perform additional duties as assigned
- follow all state and federal laws related to the sale of restricted or regulated items such as tobacco and alcohol
- adhere to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
- move regularly within SCO area to expedite transactions and maintain safety
- engage proactively with customers at self-checkout stations to assist and ensure accuracy
- monitor multiple transactions and verify payment
- prioritize safety by addressing or reporting concerns as per company policy
