Job Requirements

  • must be 16 years of age or older
  • ability to work varied shifts including nights weekends and holidays
  • ability to perform friendly courteous and tactful relations with customers and co-workers
  • ability to communicate effectively using hearing and speech
  • ability to complete written forms
  • ability to conduct visual inspection and read product information
  • ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers scanners and scales
  • ability to stand or sit for long periods and perform repetitive tasks
  • manual dexterity and good hand eye coordination
  • ability to memorize PLU codes product locations check stand procedures and company policies
  • ensure accuracy in scanning verifying sales and handling monetary transactions with basic math skills
  • occasionally use blades for box cutting safely
  • use household cleaners to maintain work area
  • ability to manage high stress situations and handle unsatisfied customers
  • as required obtain food safety or handlers cards tobacco and alcohol sales certification

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • previous retail or customer service experience beneficial
  • excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • ability to operate check stand equipment effectively
  • basic arithmetic skills for transaction accuracy
  • ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment

Job Duties

  • seek opportunities to welcome engage serve and thank customers
  • maintain an atmosphere of friendly enthusiastic customer service
  • operate check stand equipment such as a cash register scanner and scale
  • engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
  • process monetary transactions including cash checks gift certificates travelers checks food stamps coupons and refunds
  • maintain knowledge of current product location monitor UPC codes and ensure proper pricing
  • maintain clean neat and properly stocked check stand ensuring safe and secure work area
  • stock price and rotate merchandise
  • work at self-checkout lanes and customer service counter as assigned
  • follow all state and federal laws regarding sale of restricted items
  • adhere to USDA food stamp or WIC voucher procedures
  • move within SCO area to expedite transactions maintain attentive presence keep area clear of safety hazards
  • initiate and engage contact with customers at SCO stations
  • respond to alerts and errors with customer transactions
  • monitor multiple simultaneous transactions in fast-paced setting
  • engage customers at self-checkout kiosks to assist and limit shrinkage
  • maintain high level of awareness of self-checkout area and customers
  • prioritize safety of employees and customers
