Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Six months to one year of similar or related experience
  • Ability to operate menu driven computer programs with mouse, 10 key keypad and alphanumeric keyboard
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers
  • Must be physically able to perform light to moderate work exerting 50 - 100 lbs occasionally and 10 - 40 lbs frequently
  • Must be able to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and verbal instructions
  • Must possess ability to file, post, sort and organize materials and paperwork
  • Must have vision adequate to perform duties with or without correction
  • Must be able to fit and walk in confined spaces
  • Must be able to perform physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions

Job Duties

  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store
  • Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee's designated department or elsewhere in the store
  • Makes an effort to learn customers' names and to address them by name whenever possible
  • Assists customers by escorting them to the products they are looking for, securing products that are out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, making note of and passing along customer suggestions or requests, performing other tasks to enhance the shopping experience
  • Counts registers after each cashiers shift in all areas of the store
  • Balances each register handling cash and coin
  • Ensures each cash pull is placed in safe
  • Sorts checks, coupons, payouts and charges and places in appropriate register file
  • Ensures the registers have adequate cash on hand and loans money from safe to registers when necessary
  • Performs functions and is knowledgeable in all areas of register operations
  • Troubleshoots mechanical problems with registers such as receipt paper jams
  • Acts as cashier where applicable
  • Is knowledgeable of look-up numbers, department numbers, and features of items for which money is received
  • Maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress
  • Adheres to company policies and individual store guidelines
  • Reports to work when scheduled and on time
  • Trains cashiers
  • Responsible for ongoing training program
  • Assists in other areas of store as needed
  • Performs other job related duties and special projects as required
  • Approves checks written for cash or payment of merchandise purchases
  • Reconciles money orders, Western Union, utilities, US West, TCI, bank cards, gift cards, etc.
