Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university program in social sciences or education, or equivalent experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) and two or more years experience working directly with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities
  • Must be employed by Easterseals Hawaii for a minimum of six months
  • Must be under supervision of qualified staff for six months
  • Possess people skills, advocacy skills, ability to build relationships, and communication skills
  • Ability to work with ethnically, linguistically, culturally, and economically diverse populations
  • Commitment to confidentiality and discretion including HIPAA requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Ability to multitask and work in a high-energy environment
  • Must be able to respond to emergencies effectively
  • Frequent bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, and twisting
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as needed
  • Frequent speaking and listening
  • Frequent driving to various work sites
  • Utilize computer and virtual meeting software
  • Must pass background checks including FBI, DOJ, drug test, motor vehicle reports, references, and education verification
  • Valid driver's license, auto insurance, vehicle registration, and safety check
  • Must clear 2-step TB test annually
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in social sciences, education, or a related field with at least one year of verifiable experience with individuals with disabilities or elderly
  • Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Hawaii
  • or High school diploma or GED with at least two years of experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities
  • Strong people and advocacy skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Sensitivity to diverse populations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to ongoing training and clinical skill development
  • Skilled in behavioral and health incident intervention
  • Effective oral and written communication with various stakeholders

Job Duties

  • Maintain a participant caseload and encourage participant's independence and self-determination
  • Attend Individualized Service Plans (ISP) and other relevant meetings as required
  • Assist Program Manager in conducting staff orientation, training, and performance evaluations
  • Assess participants' current level of independence to develop objectives and appropriate activities based on ISP
  • Facilitate community integration and participation in chosen activities
  • Communicate with outside agencies and facilities to ensure service provision
  • Supervise Direct Support Workers (DSWs) and Activity Coordinators (ACs) to ensure compliance and best practices
  • Train DSWs to implement ISP, collect data, document progress notes, and report adverse events
  • Review and approve documentation such as GERs, mileage, timecards, and activity reimbursements
  • React appropriately and positively to participant behaviors and support intervention techniques
  • Conduct opening and closing duties of the facility
  • Execute emergency procedures and program evacuation plans
  • Interpret and implement policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Maintain quality assurance of charts regularly
  • Provide direct services as requested
