The Cardiovascular Tech RCIS position at Methodist Richardson Medical Center is a dynamic role designed for healthcare professionals who wish to specialize in cardiovascular procedures within an acute care hospital setting. The primary responsibility of this role is to assist with the technical aspects of invasive cardiovascular procedures under the direct supervision of the medical supervisor and attending physicians. This position is pivotal in ensuring procedural efficiency and patient safety by leveraging technical skills and clinical knowledge.
The role operates within standard business hours, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, following a 10X4 day shift schedule as observed in the United States. The Cardiovascular Tech works collaboratively with cardiologists, nursing staff, and other medical professionals to support diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures. Responsibilities include assisting physicians as a monitor tech during cardiac catheterization laboratory procedures by interpreting dysrhythmias and EKGs, operating physiological recorders, and interpreting pressure waveforms. The specialist also functions as a scrub tech operating imaging equipment, maintaining sterile technique, and ensuring all procedural protocols are followed meticulously.
Additional duties include assisting with patient transport, prepping patients for procedures, cleaning and stocking the cardiac catheterization lab, and managing inventory and supplies. The Cardiovascular Tech plays a crucial role in post-procedural care by removing arterial or venous sheaths, maintaining hemostasis, and closely monitoring the patient’s status. Their expertise contributes to both the clinical and operational aspects of cardiovascular care, which are essential to delivering excellent patient outcomes. Job Requirements
- Associate or bachelor’s degree, science emphasis or commensurate healthcare experience
- current American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardio Life Support certification
- RCIS certified within six months of date of hire
- ARRT and TX RT(R) required in lieu of RCIS
Job Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor’s degree, science emphasis or commensurate healthcare experience

Job Duties
- Assists in teaching and orientation of students and new staff
- assists physician as a monitor tech during any procedure performed in the cath lab by interpreting basic and advanced dysrhythmia and EKGs and operating physiologic recorder and interpreting normal and abnormal pressures and wave forms
- assists physician with most procedures as a scrub tech and operates imaging equipment under direction of physician
- assists physician with some diagnostic procedures as a circulator by monitoring patient status during a procedure, handing supplies to the scrub tech, and operating imaging equipment under the direction of the physician
- assists with transport of patient to and from department
- cleans and stocks cath lab
- demonstrates knowledge of medications and dosages used
- demonstrates theoretical knowledge of procedures
- orders supplies for cath lab and demonstrates effective inventory control
- post procedure safety removes arterial and or venous sheath, maintains hemostasis, and monitors patient status
- prepares lab for procedure by setting up for procedure and maintaining sterile technique
- prepares patient for procedure by shaving and prepping patient and marking arterial pulses
- troubleshoots equipment problems
