Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • minimum of three years of experience in recreation services or related field
  • demonstrated supervisory experience
  • ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • valid driver’s license
  • ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups
  • customer service orientation
  • strong problem-solving skills
  • ability to handle cash and financial transactions
  • adherence to county policies and procedures

Job Qualifications

  • Associate degree in recreation, parks management, public administration or related field preferred
  • experience in recreational facility or program management
  • strong supervisory skills
  • proficiency in event coordination and scheduling
  • knowledge of budgeting and financial reporting
  • marketing and promotional experience
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to work evenings and weekends

Job Duties

  • Oversee the management and operation of a regional multifunctional cultural center
  • coordinate all building scheduling with Recreation and Parks program staff, Howard County Arts Council, Asian American Pacific Islander Commission, and other County agencies and internal user groups
  • facilitate cooperation and coordination between agencies
  • coordinate all rentals and usage by individual renters, community and nonprofit organizations, and other external user groups
  • provide event planning assistance and preparation for rentals and program support
  • manage all security deposit and rental fee payments and refunds
  • implement detailed planning to avoid facility use issues
  • resolve schedule conflicts
  • coordinate rental and program reorganization during inclement weather or emergencies
  • provide special project and on-site event management
  • provide on-call assistance for evening, weekend, and holiday events and facility operations
  • oversee general operation of the center in absence of the Center Manager
  • supervise assigned full-time and contingent staff
  • recruit, train, and evaluate contingent staff
  • plan, schedule, and assign work
  • serve as liaison with the local community
  • develop partnerships to enhance the community
  • develop and implement marketing strategies for memberships, programs, events, and rentals
  • coordinate and submit information for the department’s seasonal brochure
  • create supplemental marketing materials
  • coordinate printing and distribution
  • prepare and submit Public Service Announcements
  • ensure safety and security of patrons and staff
  • complete and submit incident and injury reports
  • coordinate with Bureau of Parks and Department of Facilities for maintenance
  • assist with maintenance and repair issues
  • assist with development and management of operating budget
  • complete fiscal and financial reports
  • ensure staff compliance with policies for cost accounting and purchasing
  • participate on departmental and inter-agency teams
  • maintain knowledge of recreation programs and trends
  • apply good sustainability practices into department operations
  • carry out supervisory responsibilities in alignment with policies and laws
  • interview, hire, and train employees
  • address complaints and resolve problems
