Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Ability to qualify for relevant licenses and permits
  • Ability to read and interpret documents in English
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions
  • Ability to handle physical demands including lifting up to 50 pounds and performing various physical tasks
  • Willingness to work in an environment with moderate noise and potential exposure to secondhand tobacco smoke
  • Commitment to the highest standards of professionalism and hospitality

Job Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Sommelier through reputable organizations (CMS, WSET, etc.)
  • Previous experience as a sommelier in a luxury restaurant or upscale hospitality setting
  • Extensive knowledge of global wine regions, varietals, vintages, and wine production
  • Strong understanding of wine service best practices
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and educate guests
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to wine service standards
  • Ability to work collaboratively with culinary and service teams
  • Passion for wine and delivering extraordinary guest experiences
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Polished and well-groomed appearance
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and busy environment

Job Duties

  • Develop and maintain an exceptional wine list that complements the resort's culinary offerings and caters to diverse preferences
  • Source and select wines from global regions considering varietals, vintages, and flavor profiles
  • Interact with guests to understand their preferences and assist in choosing wines that complement their meals
  • Provide in-depth descriptions of wines including tasting notes, origin, and food pairings
  • Conduct wine seminars, tastings, and educational sessions for guests and staff
  • Train staff on wine service, pairings, and elevate their wine knowledge
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to develop creative wine and food pairing menus for special events
  • Oversee organization and management of the wine cellar including storage, rotation, and inventory control
  • Keep records of wine purchases, stock levels, and sales data
  • Plan and execute wine-focused events such as tastings and themed celebrations
  • Maintain relationships with wine distributors, wineries, and suppliers
  • Inspect wines regularly for quality and condition
  • Supervise wine stewards
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
