Job Requirements

  • must be at least 18 years of age
  • must pass fingerprint criminal background check
  • must pass pre-employment drug screening
  • must pass registry checks including Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System, Nurse Aid, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, and List of Excluded Individuals/Entities
  • males aged 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service
  • ability to work extended hours, overtime, or alternate shifts as required
  • compliance with HHSC immunization policies
  • willingness to participate in disaster response or COOP activities
  • regular attendance and punctuality

Job Qualifications

  • two years of experience in food service work
  • at least one year of experience overseeing staff in a food service environment
  • knowledge of safe food handling and preparation procedures
  • knowledge of local health and safety regulations
  • skills in operating and sanitizing food service equipment
  • skills in cash handling and reconciliation
  • ability to maintain accurate records and inventories
  • ability to plan and supervise work of others
  • Texas Food Protection Manager Certification or equivalent within three months of employment

Job Duties

  • supervise the daily operations of the State Hospital Canteen
  • ensure food handling and meal preparation are sanitary and comply with health regulations
  • order, receive, and stock merchandise
  • produce and distribute food using established recipes
  • manage reconciliation of purchases, cash handling, and sale of merchandise
  • prepare daily reports and monthly inventory of stock
  • supervise, train, and evaluate canteen staff
  • ensure the canteen meets obligations related to patient incentive programs
  • participate in disaster response and Continuity of Operations (COOP) activities
