Job Requirements

  • maintain current licenses and certificates required for this position including administrator's license, first aid, cpr, emergency behavior intervention
  • possess a valid Texas drivers license and have a good driving record
  • provide proof of work eligibility status upon request
  • pass all pre-employment and annual background checks including criminal history, employee misconduct, nurse's aide registry, and driving check
  • pass pre-employment and random drug screens
  • know indicators of abuse, neglect, and exploitation and follow appropriate reporting procedures
  • demonstrate ability to be firm, flexible, patient, and effective in client communication
  • employ preventive and de-escalation techniques in crisis intervention
  • maintain emotional control and professional composure
  • plan, organize, and prioritize tasks to work efficiently with minimal supervision
  • ability to administer first aid and CPR if necessary
  • maintain computer literacy for assigned tasks
  • communicate promptly with key staff regarding client needs
  • demonstrate working knowledge of Residential Services and Day Habilitation policies
  • authorized to work in the U.S

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • current college enrollment or coursework in a related field preferred
  • internship, volunteer experience, or work experience supporting individuals with IDD, event planning, recreation, or campus life programs preferred
  • ability to effectively communicate in written and oral forms
  • skills in planning, organizing, and prioritizing tasks
  • familiarity with crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as desirable
  • capacity to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team

Job Duties

  • assist with planning and preparing campus programming and activity supplies
  • support daily activities and special events across campus
  • assist with event set-up, clean-up, and coordination tasks
  • help create communication, flyers, and calendars as assigned
  • participate in distribution and collection of activity materials and supply kits
  • support campus-wide events, outings, and weekend activities as needed
  • assist with volunteer coordination and sign-ins
  • collect resident feedback and participation notes
  • support Mehling Center events as assigned
  • perform other duties as assigned
