Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • minimum one year of custodial experience
  • ability to perform cleaning duties in a healthcare environment
  • capacity to understand and follow safety and infection control procedures
  • physical ability to perform manual cleaning tasks including lifting and moving equipment and furniture
  • capability to operate cleaning machinery
  • good communication skills
  • ability to work as part of a team
  • willingness to participate in training and performance improvement activities
  • availability to respond promptly to communication devices

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or GED

  • ability to perform operations with units such as cup, pint, quart and ounce, inch, foot and yards
  • ability to follow directions and provide dependable service
  • demonstrated competence in critical thinking and interpersonal relationships
  • knowledge of hospital infection prevention and safety policies
  • ability to operate and maintain cleaning equipment safely

Job Duties

  • Demonstrates competence in critical thinking, interpersonal relationships, and technical skills
  • performs cleaning procedures according to cleaning schedule meeting department quality standards
  • demonstrates thorough knowledge of cleaning procedures utilized in all facility spaces, including patient rooms, isolation rooms, utility rooms, surgery, labor and delivery, exam rooms, public areas, restrooms, labs, offices, classrooms, auditoriums, corridors, escalators, elevators, stairwells, morgue, surgical procedure areas, ICU, Burn Unit, Bone Marrow Unit, ancillary areas, outer buildings, storerooms, equipment rooms, housekeeping closets, dock areas, trash areas, and outside entrance areas
  • follows all hospital and department Infection Prevention and Control, Human Resources, and Safety policies and procedures
  • reports all infection prevention and control and safety incidents to supervisor and assists with incident reports
  • may be trained to perform project cleaning such as scrub, strip, spray buff and burnish hard surface floors, shampoo carpet, furniture and mats, move equipment and furniture, wash walls, ceilings, doors, floors, windows, vents, lights, trashcans, dumpsters, equipment and furniture, and replace curtains and blinds as assigned
  • delivers clean linen and stocks linen carts to established par levels
  • removes soiled linen and trash and transports it to storage rooms, dumpsters or recycle containers
  • maintains clean, safe and orderly housekeeping cart and closet, collects supplies for daily use, restocks chemicals and cleaning supplies
  • operates and maintains housekeeping equipment safely and efficiently
  • reports equipment needing repair and safety hazards
  • carries communication devices and responds promptly
  • shows consideration when interacting with co-workers and customers
  • follows directions to provide dependable service
  • participates in team meetings, training, and special programs
  • assists supervisor with training new employees
  • performs assigned professional and technical competencies as required
  • undertakes other duties as assigned
