Job Requirements
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Ability to schedule and supervise staff
- Current Lifeguarding certification with appropriate Waterfront module and up-to-date CPR and First Aid
- Current Lifeguard Management Certification or willingness to obtain
- Minimum one summer experience as a summer day or resident camp lifeguard or minimum 18 weeks experience at aquatics facility
- Current Motorboat Boating Safety certification from US Coast Guard or Power Squadron or willingness to obtain
- Experience operating a motorboat preferred
- Believe in the Girl Scout mission
- Experience working with children in an outdoor setting preferred
Job Qualifications
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Ability to schedule and supervise staff
- Current Lifeguarding certification with appropriate Waterfront module
- Up-to-date CPR and First Aid certification
- Current Lifeguard Management Certification or willingness to obtain
- Minimum one summer experience as a camp lifeguard or 18 weeks at a staffed aquatics facility
- Current Motorboat Boating Safety certification or willingness to obtain
- Experience operating a motorboat preferred
- Believe in the Girl Scout mission
- Experience working with children in outdoor settings preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Good character, integrity, patience, sense of humor, enthusiasm, flexibility
- Ability to work productively in fast paced, stressful environments
- Program planning and implementation skills including time management, creativity, flexibility, public speaking, organization, interpersonal skills
Job Duties
- Attend mandatory staff training and pre-camp planning meetings with the Camp Director
- Attend staff meetings
- Lead waterfront staff in-service trainings
- Participate in planning and conducting pre-camp training for waterfront and counseling staff
- Supervise all waterfront staff including regular evaluation and feedback
- Complete mid-season and end-of-season performance appraisals for Sailing Instructor and Lifeguards
- Keep Camp Director informed of staff performance, morale, and conflicts
- Maintain emergency action plan knowledge and ensure safety procedures are followed
- Respond to on-site incidents and accidents
- Utilize CPR and First Aid as necessary
- Maintain knowledge of NYS Department of Health and American Camp Association safety standards
- Serve as motorboat driver or oversee delegation
- Set up and clean up waterfront, maintain equipment and logs
- Assist in camp facility and equipment management
- Act as a leader and role model
- Maintain customer service excellence and positive communication
- Assist Camp Director with day-to-day operations and staff supervision
- Cover staff rest and time-off periods
- Serve as a unit mentor and support counselors
- Assist with weekly camp clean up
- Adhere to COVID-19 protocols required by NYS Department of Health
