Job Requirements

  • Must possess a valid California driver’s license
  • must obtain and maintain valid First Aid and Infant, Child and Adult CPR with AED certificates within 90 days
  • must possess and maintain a Manager’s Food Handler’s Certificate from the County Health Department within 90 days of appointment
  • previous experience in institutional food service preferred
  • ability to work under general supervision
  • physical ability to perform kitchen duties
  • effective communication skills
  • ability to supervise and train staff

Job Qualifications

  • Experience in institutional food service
  • knowledge of health department regulations related to food preparation and service
  • supervisory experience or leadership skills
  • ability to prepare meals according to standard recipes
  • skills in training and instructing kitchen staff
  • good organizational and inventory management skills
  • valid California driver’s license
  • ability to maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions
  • basic computer skills for completing daily logs

Job Duties

  • Oversees the work of kitchen staff
  • delegates assignments and inspects work to ensure completion of all cooking, cleaning, and other required tasks
  • provides training and instruction to kitchen staff to ensure the food service provided meets the established quality and health standards
  • prepares meals according to standard recipes and health department regulations
  • prepares and serves meals within serving size and temperature standards
  • manages food production to control costs and prevent food waste
  • inventories food and supplies, ensuring adequate stock is available when meal preparation begins
  • cleans kitchen and dining areas
  • maintains clean and sanitary conditions in facility in order to ensure the highest degree of cleanliness of food production and service areas
  • completes daily work log
  • recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe conditions, accidents and injuries
  • performs related duties as assigned
