Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • one year of experience in large quantity food preparation and serving preferred
  • may require ServSafe certification
  • must pass an approved pre-placement medical assessment

Job Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of institutional quantity food preparation, cooking methods, procedures and service
  • knowledge of weights and measures
  • knowledge of kitchen safety and sanitation
  • sufficient language and reading skills to understand and verbalize instructions
  • good human relations skills to provide positive customer service and teamwork
  • ability to perform routine duties under direct supervision
  • ability to understand, interpret, and follow oral and written instructions
  • ability to add and subtract using decimals and fractions
  • ability to work varying shifts and locations
  • ability to obtain ServSafe certification

Job Duties

  • Prepares, assembles, counts, and portions food items including fruits, vegetables, frozen and cooked items
  • cuts fruits and vegetables and prepares serving trays
  • assembles standardized portions and places them on food carts
  • assists with delivering meals to classrooms
  • participates in arranging café service lines and packaged food items for easy selection
  • serves food items following portion sizes and menu plans
  • operates kitchen equipment such as food processors, mixers, slicers, dishwashers, and warming ovens
  • assists in cooking and baking meat and bread products using specialized equipment
  • assists in receiving, inspecting, storing, and rotating inventory
  • prepares food for field trips and prescheduled events
  • records food temperatures during preparation
  • cleans and sanitizes kitchen equipment and surfaces
  • learns and serves as a point-of-sale cashier
  • collaborates with custodial and maintenance staff for kitchen upkeep
  • attends required meetings and trainings
  • performs other duties as assigned
