Job Qualifications

  • Completion of 12th Grade or equivalent work experience
  • One-year experience in the preparation of food in large quantities
  • Knowledge of proper methods of preparing food in large quantities
  • Familiarity with use and care of institutional kitchen equipment and utensils
  • Understanding of proper cleaning and sanitizing methods including MSDS
  • Knowledge of principals of personal hygiene and sanitary food preparation and kitchen safety
  • Mathematics knowledge necessary for recipe conversion and to accurately make change
  • Ability to prepare and serve a wide variety of foods efficiently
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions
  • Ability to keep accurate records
  • Ability to supervise, assign, and train student helpers
  • Ability to handle money and operate a computerized and standard cash register
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others

Job Duties

  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of a variety of foods including soups, entrees, sandwiches, salads, fruits, vegetables, baking, and desserts following standardized recipes and menus
  • Set up food serving lines and/or steam tables and serve meals or meal components
  • Prepare and serve beverages
  • Store or dispose of excess food properly
  • Operate and clean all kitchen equipment such as ranges, ovens, steamers, mixers, choppers, slicers and dishwashing machines
  • Store food and supplies in accordance with instructions and assist in taking inventories
  • Take cash and make change using either a standard or computerized register system
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
