Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in food service or customer service preferred
- Ability to operate kitchen equipment safely and maintain sanitary conditions
- Basic math skills to perform accurate monetary transactions
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Physical ability to perform essential job functions such as lifting and standing for extended periods
- Ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude under pressure
- Flexibility to work varied shifts including mornings
- Willingness to comply with health and safety regulations
- Ability to greet the public in a calm and courteous manner
Job Qualifications
- Knowledge of principles for preparation of food products utilizing basic techniques
- Familiarity with methods of assuring cleanliness of the cafe, equipment, dining area floor, tables, and chairs
- Strong customer service practices
- Ability to safely operate modern kitchen equipment
- Understanding of safety and security procedures and policies as established by the City and in accordance with Washington State Law and the Department of Health
- Basic record-keeping skills
- Proficient command of English usage, grammar, and vocabulary
- Effective interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy
- Ability to positively and effectively interact with diverse individuals
Job Duties
- Assist in the food service operations at the Splash Cafe including opening and closing the cafe on time for daily operations
- Ensure all tasks and customer service operations are performed daily during assigned shift
- Perform food preparation in accordance with health, safety, and sanitary procedures while ensuring proper utilization and storage and safe handling of food and supplies
- Operate a variety of modern kitchen equipment such as espresso machine, coffee machine, microwave, Panini press, cash register and various other cafe appliances in a safe and sanitary manner
- Serve food and drinks to a diverse group of guests at the Community Center using excellent customer service practices
- be friendly, approachable, and personable
- Receive monies and make change accurately and reconcile sales daily
- Maintain inventory and restock coolers, freezers, dispensers, and displays as needed
- inform Community Center Services Coordinator when supplies are low and need to be ordered
- Create a friendly and welcoming environment
- answer visitors questions and provide general information about the Federal Way Community Center
- Work in cooperation with maintenance staff to maintain clean appearance of the Cafe and dining area by emptying trash, washing tables, sweeping and mopping floors, loading and unloading the dishwasher, cleaning equipment
- Perform other duties as assigned
